Supartz Product specifications
Supartz is a sterile, apyrogenic, nonpharmacologic viscosupplement that alleviates osteoarthritis. It inhibits inflammatory pathways and cartilage-degenerating enzymes. It also replenishes the integrity of the synovial fluid and cartilage by delivering highly purified hyaluronan. Instead of performing intrusive or surgical procedures, it only takes a series of injections to achieve similar if not maximum benefits. Your patient can achieve pain-free mobility for as long as 6 months and delay the chances for knee replacement. With 20 years of impressive track record, this injectable orthopedic solution provides an increased quality of life.
What Supartz is formulated to do
Supartz is an intraarticular injectable that restores the knee from osteoarthritic pain. It is a potent alternative for patients who have failed to respond to conservative non-pharmacologic therapy and analgesics such as acetaminophen. This disorder happens due to the obstruction of cartilage repair response in joints, which creates friction, inflammation, and other mechanical and cellular defuncts at the knee.
Supartz’s enhanced hyaluronan solution is similar to natural synovial fluid, which helps to lubricate the joint, stimulate endogenous cartilage production, reduce synovitis, and reduce the concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokines as means to diminish the searing pain of the affected knee. It can sustain the impressive results for up to 6 months, coordinating better quality of life for the patient.
This product is manufactured by Seikagaku Corporation and has been widely used for more than 20 years.

When it can cause side effects
Side effects may occur due to overcorrection, injection technique, or hypersensitivity towards hyaluronic acid or other content in the solution. The patient may feel transient pain and/or swelling after the intraarticular injection. Other side effects may include arthralgia, pain at the injection site, foreign body sensation, and headache.
Which area is it good for?
This injectable is indicated for injection into the knee. It is advisable for patients who do not respond appropriately to conventional pharmacological therapy or analgesics such as acetaminophen.
What it is made without
The hyaluronic acid and the solution is highly purified and contains minimal impurities. It has fewer bacteria endotoxins and nucleic acids/DNA content than other hyaluronic acid-based viscosupplements. It does not contain steroids, antibiotics or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
This product is rheumatologist tested?
Many clinical trials have been carried out using Supartz. Researchers have found that the benefits include lasting for at least 18 weeks and delaying time to total knee replacement by up to 3.6 years.
Is it FDA approved?
Yes, it is FDA approved.
Differences between Supartz and other products
Supartz treatments consist of 3 to 5 weekly injections, depending on the patient’s condition. It administers hyaluronic acid solution to the joint, enhancing its cartilage support and prevention of cytokines and inflammation. Other viscosupplements can be injected in 1 to 5 sessions.
- Only trained medical professionals should perform this treatment. You can apply a local anesthetic if needed.
- Using a 22–23G needle, remove any joint effusion available before injecting the solution into the area.
- Use the same needle except replacing the syringe with Supartz. Inject the full contents of the syringe into one knee. If treatment is bilateral, use separate syringes.
- Each syringe is for a single treatment. This treatment is approved for 5 weekly injections, although some patients may benefit from as few as 3 sessions.
- Advise patients to not perform any strenuous exercises up to 48 hours after the treatment.
- To maintain the results, you may schedule a follow up treatment after 90 days of the last weekly injection(s).
This viscosupplement contains 25mg/2.5ml of hyaluronic acid.
Sodium hyaluronate or hyaluronic acid is a substance that biologically fuses and lubricates the synovial fluid. It provides support to the cartilage and cellular matrix’s integrity by maintaining the systematic repair network while preventing the release of degenerating enzymes.
However, the natural, body-sourced concentration gradually depletes due to aging and excessive usage of joints. Supartz replaces the deficient synovial fluid with high molecular weight purified hyaluronic acid. This restores the lubrication of the joints and the inhibition of inflammatory pathways.
In comparison to oral drugs, this formulation is more effective in relieving the knee for as long as 3 months or more.
