Marketed as bio-remodeling injectable, Profhilo H+L is a hyaluronic acid (HA)-based filler that is not cross-linked using the chemical agent 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE). Some doctors have concerns about the way BDDE may affect the body, as it may trigger allergic reactions. As such, this filler is an excellent choice for patients and practitioners who wish to avoid the use of this compound.
This product is indicated mainly for improving tissue quality and skin laxity, as well as smoothing out sagging skin. It is important to nota that this formula doesn’t compete or react with other anti-aging procedures, such as Botox or dermal filler injection.
What is Profhilo H+L formulated to do?
The unique formulation of Profhilo H+L does not contain BDDE, a substance that is used in a large number of fillers to stabilize HA molecules, preventing their degradation by the body. While only small traces of BDDE are left in traditional facial fillers, the known mutagenic properties of this substance (in large doses) are enough for scientists and physicians to look for other options.
This product is being heralded as a “true” wrinkle treatment. Rather than correcting deep lines and wrinkles or replacing volume loss, the gel injectable provides hydration deep within the cells and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin to tighten the skin. The gel solution is less viscoelastic compared to traditional fillers. However, its unique combination of high and low molecular weight HA helps in stabilizing the filler to resist premature degradation.
This filler is manufactured by IBSA Farmaceutici Italia.
Profhilo H+L is produced in San Grato LO, Italy.

Common side effects associated with the treatment
The breakthrough injectable treatment comes with a few minor side effects. These adverse effects are only temporary, and will resolve themselves within a few days.
Common side effects:
- Tenderness or pain at the treated site
If these issues become persistent or painful, patients should consult a medical professional. This is not an exhaustive list of side effects associated with this filler.
Which skin type is it good for?
The best candidates for Profhilo H+L are those with dry, sagging skin that requires intense hydration and added elasticity. After 1 month, an increase in the production of collagen and elastin takes place, providing significant tissue improvement, as well as tightening and lifting effects.
Precautions and contraindications
Just like most HA dermal fillers in the market, the effects granted by Profhilo H+L are temporary: this biocompatible gel solution is completely broken down by the body over a period of months. The safety and efficacy of this injectable has not been established in individuals below 18 years, or in pregnant and nursing mothers. Do not administer this treatment to patients with a known hypersensitivity to any components of this filler.
Awards and certifications
Profhilo H+L won the Barry Knapp Award for Product Innovation of the Year from the Aesthetics Awards held in London last 2016.

- Gently massage the skin to ensure even distribution of the gel at the surrounding tissues.
Profhilo H+L contains 64mg of hyaluronic acid (32mg low molecular weight HA and 32mg high molecular weight HA). Additionally, its patented NAHYCO™ Hybrid Technology successfully combines the 2 types of hyaluronic acid to produce a more stabilized gel solution made of pure HA.
